Creating a bridge between rich heritage and an ambitious future…

GTH/architects were appointed to develop Design Proposals and subsequently provide Design Guardian services (through a D&B contract) for The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeon’s new long term home at Hardwick Street, London.

Working closely with the client’s Leadership Team, proposals were developed for key areas, inclusive of ground floor member/visitor facilities, archive/storage (historic documents & artifacts) lower ground conference rooms and upper level legal meeting suit and offices.

Crucial considerations for the development of the scheme design were:

• The creation of an environment that spoke of the organisation’s rich history whilst positioning it for an ambitious purposeful future – a place that would act as a focal point for members old and new, whilst also welcoming friends and visitors.
• The careful and creative integration of the RCVS’s complex brief into the framework of an elegant existing structure brimming with character and opportunity.
• The application of Retro-fit principals – minimising waste and reduction of carbon footprint – Re-use, Re-fit…
